The goal of Dig It Up is simple: to supply not only archaeology, geology and palaeontology professionals, but students, amateurs, juniors, seniors, and the interested public at large, with the basic tools, know-how and equipment for digging up our ancient past. Dig It Up provides the right gear for digging it right, and at an affordable price. We stock a variety of equipment ranging from your general digging needs (including archaeology trowels, geological picks and rock chisels), to field gear (all-weather stationery, first aid kits, range poles, photo scales and flagging tape), plus your laboratory requirements (such as picks and probes, brushes, tweezers and more). For the first time, you can get everything that you need from the same place, and best of all, it’s local. The equipment here is the gear that we use ourselves- everything at Dig It Up is tried and tested. If we don’t use it or like it, we won’t sell it.
One of the things that we were conscience about when we established Dig It Up back in early 2010, was that we didn’t want it to be your standard “click-in, buy some stuff, don’t really know what you’re buying” kind of online store. There’s just too many of them around already- you know, the ones that list the products, give some barely incomprehensible technical specifications, but really leave you in the dark about what the gear actually is and how and why you even really need it. We’ve dealt with them in the past with varying levels of success… but mostly poor. We’ve forked out too much money trying to learn our craft, buying the wrong gear, for the wrong job, wasting not only cash and time, but losing face. Most of these other companies are not run by people with experience in the Earth or Archaeological Sciences- they don’t know the gear; they don’t know how to use it; and they try to sell you stuff that you just plain don’t need.
If you don't know why you need a particular product, or how it is even going to make your work easier, we don't want you to buy it. The thing about Dig It Up is that it is backed by the expertise of real archaeology, geology and palaeontology professionals. And we’re super fortunate to have the support of our Dr G (Dr Gilbert Price), one of Australia’s leading up-and-coming Earth Scientists. Dig It Up is more than just a place to buy tools and equipment. There’s heaps of information not only on the products themselves, but perhaps even more importantly, tips on how to use the gear safely and properly. We’ve got extensive info on tool maintenance and specifications in our Dig It Right pages to give you a deeper understanding on the various products. If you’re a new student of the Earth or Archaeological sciences, then we offer support just for you- we tell you about the gear, why you need it, and how to use it depending on the level of your studies. And finally, we’d love to hear about how you use the tools and equipment- we welcome you to post your own product reviews directly on our website, our blog, or Facebook page.
So that’s what we’re all about: We want to ensure that you get the right gear and that you know how to use it properly so that you don’t waste your money, your time, or compromise safety. We want to help you attain high levels of professionalism, and most importantly, do your job right. If there is anything we can do for you or you need a little extra help in choosing the right gear, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
