Description: The Eco Archaeology Trowel is an economy model designed as a more affordable alternative to our big brand trowel range of WHS, Marshalltown and Battiferro. Just like the big three, the Eco Archaeology Trowel is drop-forged from a single piece of steel- no welding of the blade to the neck as you will find in cheap hardware trowels. This means that it will hold up to tough excavating far better than any similarly priced generic hardware model. Just like the big brands, the Eco Archaeology Trowel has a flattened tang that is designed to reduce rotation- again, this is a feature lacking in comparatively priced generic trowels. The trowel blade is around 10 cm in length (4"), just over 5 cm wide (2") at its widest point and 1.2 mm thick- similar in dimension to most of the big three.
Specifications:
- Drop-forged from a single piece of high-carbon steel
- Top soft grip comfort handle
- High action between handle and plane of blade
- 4" (10 cm) long blade in London design
Dr G's recommendation: My go-to archaeology trowel is for fieldwork is my Battiferro, but I keep a couple of the Eco Archaeology trowels in my kit. They are cheap as chips, far better quality than any similarly priced trowel that you can get from a hardware, plus the Eco's are much heavier duty, being forged from a single piece of steel, not welded like the hardware junk. I highly recommend them for any practicing archaeologist. For students, they are especially good if you have enrolled in a one-off archaeology subject at university and need a trowel for the semester, or you are a novice looking for a purpose-designed archaeology trowel without over-investing in the big brand name gear straight up.
